Regency (Dishlex) dishwasher door gasket installation

I have a second series Regency (Dishlex) dishwasher and am trying to replace the gasket at the bottom of the door. It slides into a narrow channel formed by extremely sharp-edged stainless steel on both sides. It was easy to slide the old gasket out, but I can't get the new gasket in. Does anyone know how the pros do it?

John
