The stink is up inside your agitator! I have a 2 yr old Kenmore washing machine. It recently started smelling. There is no water in the tub that I can see and I can hear water swish when I stop it in the middle of a spin. I regretfully had the Sears repairman come and look at it. He did not smell anything. He took off the case and looked at the hoses, the tub, the pump, he filled the tub and drained it. It said he couldn't find anything wrong and did not know why it would smell. I ASKED HIM TO TAKE OFF THE AGITATOR AND WHEN I LOOKED UP INTO IT, THERE WAS MOULD GROWING AND BOY DID IT STINK! So evidently every time i would wash a load of clothes the water would mix with this mold and i wound actually be washing in stinking water! My clothes never had that fresh just washed smell. That is were the smell was coming from. I washed it out with hot soapy water and rinsed it with bleach in my kitchen sink. He Had never heard of anyone having this complaint before. I told him "well, next time you'll know what it is then!" So i guess this is something I need to remove often and clean myself. He charged me $24.99 to remove the agitator too even though I am the one that cleaned it. I hope i can solve some problems for others having this happen! Thank You!
