Its drain hose may be connected to a disposal at the sink which could be responsible for draining problems. There is nothing like that IN the dishwasher which would cause draining problems. There may be a filter in it which if plugged, might.

If you get the model number off the appliance's identification tag, a user's manual for it may be able to be downloaded.
