: I have a small refrigerator in my office. It has a very small freezer
: that I never use, but must defrost and clean every once in a while.
: I would like to remove this freezer without jeopardizing the
: operation of the refrigerator.
: Can this be done and how?
No!
All the cooling for the whole appliance usually takes place in that freezerette (or in the freezer in a full size model). If it were to be disconnected, the whole appliance would cease to cool.
If you only want a refrigerator without any type of freezer, look to purchase and "all refrigerator" like seen at the following link:
LINK > 'All fridge' refrigerator models
If you don't want to have to defrost a refrigerator, look for a "frost free" model. They are usually less energy efficient than other designs as they periodically turn on electric heaters to melt any frost accumulation.
BTW. I think that most 'all fridges' are of a 'cycle defrost' design and as such don't need to be defrosted at all but don't use electric heaters either.
