I think Dave is right on target, Alex. My Amana did the same thing. I ended up emptying the fridge and turning it off for about 3 days. Everything went back to normal.

: If the defrost drain itself is clogged the melted water from defrosting will seek another way out--that's how water and gravity work. It's not the way the refrig is designed to work, just how it will if the drain clogs. Dave
