: This may seem like a simple question, but here it is: the shifter in my 93 Ford Ranger Pickup is becoming increasingly difficult to shift, I recently put in DOT 3 brake fluid in the cylinder, but it has continued to be difficult to shift gears. Is DOT 3 the same thing as manuel clutch fluid, or is it a sign of a more serious problem. Thanks.

Yes,you put the right stuff in. If you had to add a lot,you may need to bleed the system. The bleeder is on the slave cylinder. Bleed it just like you would brakes.

If you find no evidence of leaking from the master cylinder down, check under the dash where the clutch pedal goes into the cylinder. That's a favorite spot to leak. I just replaced mine.

Then again, your clutch could be going. Try bleeding first and see how it goes.
