: : This may seem like a simple question, but here it is: the shifter in my 93 Ford Ranger Pickup is becoming increasingly difficult to shift, I recently put in DOT 3 brake fluid in the cylinder, but it has continued to be difficult to shift gears. Is DOT 3 the same thing as manuel clutch fluid, or is it a sign of a more serious problem. Thanks.

: Yes,you put the right stuff in. If you had to add a lot,you may need to bleed the system. The bleeder is on the slave cylinder. Bleed it just like you would brakes.

: If you find no evidence of leaking from the master cylinder down, check under the dash where the clutch pedal goes into the cylinder. That's a favorite spot to leak. I just replaced mine.

: Then again, your clutch could be going. Try bleeding first and see how it goes.

Answer: I agree with what bob has to say .Sounds likely to me .
