One solution to get added life/protection to your
gravel drive is to add dry (powdered) portland
cement to the top lift of the road base. The
cement will react w/ the sand/gravel mixture to
form a pseudo concrete surface when water is
added to compact the lift. This will NOT
produce a finished concrete surface, but will
"armor" the road base more than just compacted base.

Note: the main problems you have appears to be: 1)a
steep drive, and 2) too much traffic or improper
driving habits. ((Sounds like asphalt or concrete
may be the only long lasting alternative for the
steep portion of the dirve)).
