I found your site on the web and need an
impartial answer to a concrete driveway
question. I hope you can help me.
I live just outside of DC in Northern VA.
In September (read, 5 short months ago) I had
a 633 sq ft concrete driveway put in (4000 psi).
It cost just under $4000.00. The concrete is
starting to disintegrate in spots - specifically,
where the tires of my car generally rest and
along the apron. I had the company come out
and look at it, and he said that it was salt
damage, highway salt stuck to the tires and
resting on the "new" concrete. We, of course,
never put any salt on the driveway ourselve.
He also said that although it isn't his fault
or responsibility, he would patch the spots,
that they would not erode before the rest of the
surface and that that should take care of it.
I'm a bit confused. Isn't concrete supposed
to last forever? Does this make any sense at all? I'm tempted to let him do the repair but reserve the right to ask them to re-do the driveway completely if it isn't to my satisfaction (I really want a perfect, uniform surface) If it isn't too much trouble, I'd really like your professional opinion. Thank you so much for your time and trouble.
Sincerely, Anne Fox
