I am building a new house and the builder typically uses PVC for all waste and supply pipes. Should I insist on copper for supply pipes, or is PVC a suitable alternative?

Answer:
Not only is it suitable, in many cases it is better than using copper. Well-water is particularly corrosive to copper pipe so many localities require PVC supply line for homes on wells. I am also having a new home built at this time and was glad to see the plumber use PVC.
