I want to install a dimmer in place of the normal switch for my basement lights, two sets, one switch. However the dimmer switch has only two wires and the installed switch has four wires. How can I install this dimmer? Thanks.
Answer:
A single switch with four terminals, (there was no mention of a duplex switch which is two switches), would be a four-way switch. It is intended to be used with two three-way switches, so that the switched load may be controlled from three locations. I have not seen four-way dimmers but I have seen three-way dimmers. These can be installed as a direct replacement for an existing three way switch.
