I have yellowish stains on my painted ceiling from a roof leak that has been fixed. What is the best way to hide these stains, a latex primer, or perhaps oil base? They just seem to keep coming back overnight... Or must I solve the problem of the moisture remaining above the ceiling stain first, as in let it dry out thoroughly before I prime? I think I just answered my own question....?? Thanks.

I would make sure that the ceiling was dry before priming first. As far as a primer I would suggest the brand "Kilz", I have used this to cover up very dark colors that were in my house and they make a kind for water stains. Usually only takes about one coat.

Use Kilz oil base, it even comes in a spray can.
