In Reply to: Wiring An Air Compressor?? Posted by: John on April 09, 2001 at 13:09:18:
I have installed the proper outlet box and pulled 3, #10 wires through smurf pipe & fed the wires into the panel box. I have installed a double pole 20 amp breaker into the box. I know that two of the wires will attach to the breaker (red & black} and will be hot. The green wire will attach to the ground bar in the panel box. Do I need a white neutral wire to attach to the neutral bar in the panel box? In the papers that came with the compressor it said to use a 15 amp double pole time delayed fuse? Also, the plug in receptacle only has three connection screws. If I pull a fourth white neutral wire through, where do I connect it at the outlet end?
No neutral is needed unless there is 110v line to neutral current flow which is not the case here. A clothes dryer would need 4 as the motor is 110 and elements are 220 and the green or bare would bond the non-current carrying parts
