We just moved into an apartment which had stackable washer and dryer hook-ups. The dryer vent hook-up is about 6 ft. from the floor. In order to hook-up the vent hose you must have about 10 to 12 ft. of hose. The dryer will not dry the cloths. What might the problem be?
Answer:
You should be able to cut the hose to the desired length to fit exact. As far as not drying if it is an electric unit then the heating element could be burned out, if that is the case the dryer will not get hot at all. If it is a gas unit the gas line, ( If it is flexible ), could be damaged , pinched, or kinked. A gas unit also may use an electric igniter or a pilot light depending on the age. If the unit gets hot, but not hot enough to dry the cloths make sure the drum is spinning, and you don't have a broken belt. If all that checks out OK then call for help.
Another Answer:
Most apartments have long runs in the dryer vent pipes once they enter the walls. Many landlords do not have the vents cleaned out and therefore drying times increase as well as the potential for fires. Check to see where the vent exits the building. Roof, outside wall, etc. Than run your dryer and feel the output of the vent. You will quickly know if you cannot hear the dryer in the vent that you need to call a local furnace duct cleaner to see if they can help you clean the pipe out of built up lint.
