: we are building a home in Wisconsin, and our builder prefers to use plywood beneath our floors (ceramic, hardwood, carpet). Our flooring guy bid cement board. What are the differences between the two? What exactly IS OSB?

Your builder is a moron..Never use OSB as a subfloor. Never use plywood under tile or stone. You should listen to your tile contractor. Wetbed is the best but cement board is still good, but NEVER plywood.
