In Reply to: Tile/shower leak & subfloor damage Posted by: Mickey on August 09, 2000 at 19:00:15:
: Our shower has been leaking for 7 months and has caused the tile grouting to turn yellow. The house is new and the tile was set on a morter bed. The leak finaly made its way down through the family room. THe bottom side of the sub floor, which was glued and screwed plywood, is black and has a white mould growing. We are fearfull that the wate has wicked throuth the motor bead and will present a problem in the future. The builder has suggested spraying the subfloor with a water/clorox mixture and repairing the drywall.
: What signs of damage should we look for and how can we test for these potential problems.
: Any help would be greatly appriciated
Sounds like your shower pan is bad,if your house is new and still under warranty, then I would demand action from the builder.I did repairs like this for builders many times, the builders will try to get away with a temporary fix until you are out of warranty.Get a proffessional to look at it,a plumbing contractor or tile contractor and not someone who works for or with your builder. You need outside help and maybe a lawyer. The most important thing is to use only licensed contractors with references.
