: Help!!! Some milk got spilled on my carpet in my car and didn't know it until the smell came. I have tried carpet cleaner[shampoo], Refresh, also a mixture of 1 tbs.ammonia to 1 cup of water. The smell is still there. It seems more noticeable on hot days. It really is gross. If anyone can give me an idea that will work,I'm all ears. Thanks.

Q: I have a friend who spilled a carton of milk in the trunk of her car. She has tried many things to get the smell of sour milk out of her trunk, but nothing has worked. What do you suggest? Thanks. —Sandi, NM
A: Fortunately, there is a great trick for eliminating that horrible sour milk smell. Milk is an acid, and an alkaline material such as baking soda will neutralize the odor. Cover the stained area with baking soda, sprinkle with water, and leave the mixture there for a few hours or overnight, then sweep up the loose baking soda and vacuum up the rest.
