baseboards and walls of a similar colour as the carpet colour
expand a room since you do not really know where the carpet
stops and the walls begin. This is also true of walls
and the ceiling. By using cool colour on the wall and
the same or a touch lighter on the ceiling causes the
room to expand outwards some.
Now also remember there is furniture in this room and
making the furniture smaller scaled will help the room
look bigger. A nice uncluttered look will also help.
Hope this gives you some ideas.
You do not say what size your room is or what kind of room
or you end intention as far as the feel of the room so
this is just some basics you can consider.
