: Anyone out there have any ideas on the OSB ( oriented strand board ) question that I posted a couple of weeks ago?
At the very least put down a layer of 6mil poly barrier. Concrete is permeable to water vapor, but in ahouse as new as your there should be a barrier under the slab already.
The next question is, how do you plan on attaching it to the slab, if at all?
According to building any wood that comes into contact with concrete should be rot resistant like pressure treated lumber. Well, that leaves out OSB. You could put down PT furring strips 16in oc and then install 3/4OSB on top of that. That would be m preferred method since it will leave a space under the floor so that any water in the future does not affect the OSB directly.
Overall I don't like the idea of OSB for a basement because yu will eventually hav somekind of plumbing leak (pipe, water heater, etc...) and the OSB at the lowest level will get the worst of it..JMHO
