: We are about to move into a house with wall to wall Berber carpet.
: We thought about hiring professional carpet cleaners to come in and clean it before we move in, but after watching a T.V. special the other night about "rip-offs" from carpet cleaning copanies, we may just do it ourselves. Is there any special precations to use when cleaning Berber?
: Thanks

yes, on berber you have to vacuum, vacuum, vacuum, vacuum, vacuum, get the idea? I suggest you forget that special, yes, there are ripoffs in every professional field, but, does that stop you from goint to, say, a doctor if one or two are bad? Carpet cleaners are easy to pick on for a lot of reasons, they never talk about the good ones much, why, not good story. there are many, many good carpet cleaners out there. my first choice to tell you would be look for a Bane-Clene operator, the ad in the yellow pages will say Bane-Clene somewhere, next choice, IICRC, note here you may not like, berber is over sold, over sold a lot, and, it cost more to clean, but, a rental machine just will not do a good job on a berber unless you plan on doing one room a day for about four hours of vacuuming with those weak machines, sorry, that is the best I can do for you, and, yes, I was trained by the Bane Institute many years ago as part of my inspector training, good luck
