Only 2 reasons water won't stay in a trap:
Leak in the trap or bad vent pipe...

Check the trap for leaks..then check the vents to make sure water isn't being sucked out because no air is let in the system...

Then go kick whoever told you about the veggie and p-nut oil nonsense.
