location of sump pump

About 5 feet from a corner in my basement, I have a water leak where the wall and footing meet, at the end of a long crack. I thought I had fixed this problem last summer when I excavated on the outside of this wall and supposedely fixed this leakeage on the outside. My question is, can I locate the sump pump in the corner, about four feet away or would it be better to locate it just across from the spot where it is leaking? It makes no difference where it is placed, beacuse it will be a closet area when I finish the basement. Thanks for any advice.
