I wanted to know the advantages and disadvantages between salt and potassium. Main concern's are health and prolonged use of either product.

: Don't go to Sears - They do not offer a good product when it comes to softners.

: When looking, ask for one with an "econominder" control head. This will at least make the softner more efficient, and hopefully use less salt.
