I have a 7' X 7" Spa I would also like to install on a deck/platform. My deck, however is only going to be approx. 1-foot off the groung. What do you recommend for a platform? I was thinking (4) 12" sonotubes in each corner and dfouble 2x12's 12" on center.: : I have a deck attached to my house which is built on a slight hill. One end of the deck is about 12 ft above the ground. I want to reinforce it to be able to support a 7' X 7' spa. I was thinking about using three 4 X 6 beams perpendicular to the joists under the spa. Supporting each of these beams would be two 6 X 6 posts mounted on piers. Will this work safely? My other option is to build stairs from the deck to the ground and installing the spa on the ground. Thanks
: Cameron,
: Use doubled 2x12's. Believe it or not, they will be much stronger than 4x6 beams.
: You don't say what size your joists are, but if you use 2 doubled 2x12 beams under
: the spot where the spa will go, you will be well supported with as little as 2x6 joists.
: (since the spa is only 7x7, the joists will only be spanning 7 feet max)
: Use the 6x6 posts, and brace them with diagonals one to the other with 2x4s.
