: i want to build a loft bed. i can screw it directly into the wall on three sides, but my questions are...
: 1 what should i use for lumber (2x4's?)
: 2 will i need to support the side with no wall with a post to the floor? (it'll be 80 inches long on that side and will need to support me @ 150 lbs and the futon pad i plan to put on it
: 3 how should i support the futon pad? one large particle board or crosses of 2x4 or something else i haven't thought of yet? THANK YOU!!!

Crystal,
One thing for SURE put the post in. There is no way you would want it unsupported at that corner.
For the frame.. well.. that all depends on how you want it to look.. your talent level.. etc. Have you check out what these sorts of things are made of in the store?? Take a look. Look at various ones to get an idea. (Bring your tape measure.. and take notes)
I would not just use a particle board unsupported except at the edges.. Use at least 2 and better yet 3 supporting boards across the width.

Chris
