: : Just had a new boiler installed. the pipe clang and bang now like crazy--how do we stop it? What causes it? are the pipes being damaged? We have radiators. thanks

hi! it can be a lot of thing's... pipes bang when steam hits cold water it causes a small xplosion xpanding the cold water rapidly. pipes in the basement should all have a run back to the boiler. check all the shutoff valves at your radiators. they need to be opened fully. old valves can get jammed letting steam in and trapping the water. when steam arrives the next time it bang's . more than likely the boiler was installed wrong.check for correct pipe sizing coming of the boiler were the new pipes tie in to the old. water level in the boiler should be two third's in the sight glass. lower the pressure in the boiler. one pound at a time. this prevents to much back pressure on the return lines..
