Just had a new boiler installed. The pipes clang and bang now like crazy--how do we stop it? What causes it? Are the pipes being damaged? We have radiators. Thanks. If you ever find the information you need to solve this problem please let me know. I have similar problems, radiators that get hot, some don't, etc. and trying to find anyone still alive that works on steam radiators appears impossible. Please let me know!

The pipes are clanging due to the fact that steam and hot water are being returned to the boiler-instead of just hot water. This is called "hammering" and can also be due to the expansion and contraction of the distribution pipes. It sounds like (no pun intended) that the hammering is happening due to your steam traps not working. Good luck!
