In Reply to: Central A/C - Condensation Line Is Blocked... Posted by: Steve Kim Smith on July 26, 2000 at 06:34:04
We are getting ready to sell our home. A home inspector made note that our A/C condensation line is blocked and requires repair. We'd like to repair it ourselves, so as not to incur extra charges. Is this something that can be repaired fairly easily? Where would we look for said line? (A/C unit is outside the back of our house.) Condensation line is in our attic, I guess. If you tell us that we really need to call on someone, can you give us an idea of a fair price?
Your condensation drain line is located on the drip pan that is located under your unit. The drip pan is designed to catch the condensation that drips from your unit and the drain allows for removal of the water before it can overflow and damage your sheetrock. If your unit is in the attic, the drain line should be on one side of the pan attached with a simple clamp. It can be unclogged by using a tube to blow it out, or replace it with a flex hose that can be bought at your local hardware store. Make sure that you get the right size and length. You may want to keep an eye on the pan and keep it free of debris.
