I am going to repaint a room light blue and beige. The walls are now very dark, (including dark purple and tomato red). What type of primer do I use first, how many coats of it? Also, when using painters tape, do you remove it right after painting or wait until it dries somewhat? Thanks!!
Buy a very good quality paint. Benjamin Moore makes good paints and they are my favorite. They sell a primer called Fresh Start. One coat of that and one coat of your top coat will do it. You can ask them to tint the primer towards the color of your final coat.
As for the tape remove it when the paint is dry after your top coat is painted. That is, you can leave it on between coats. Buy the good painters tape too, you don't get bleed through like you do with masking tape, and it peels off without any problem. Masking tape, again, dries on and doesn't remove well.
